Latrobe Valley investment

Mr Chester said the meeting provided an important opportunity for the council to outline the challenges and opportunities facing one of the region’s communities that is undergoing a major transition. "Latrobe City has been significantly impacted by the closure of traditional industries, including coal-fired power generation and native forestry. It’s critical that all levels of government work together to support the region’s economic transformation and create new opportunities for local workers, businesses and families."

Mr Chester said the discussion focused on the investment needed to support future jobs, infrastructure and economic growth across the Latrobe Valley. "We had a productive conversation about the council’s priorities and the practical steps needed to strengthen the region’s economy and support the community through this period of change," he said.

Mr Chester said strong advocacy and collaboration between local, state and federal representatives would remain important in securing investment for the region’s future. "Latrobe City has enormous potential, and it’s important the Federal Government listens to the voices of local leaders as we work to build the next chapter for the Latrobe Valley. I’m a strong believer in localism, and that means working with local community leaders to identify priorities and invest in new upgrades," he said.
