Plogging Along To Save Our Oceans

Successful community plogging event on Kilcunda beach.

Plogging is the combination of jogging and picking up rubbish, and it is and activity that is slowly growing in Bass Coast thanks to two fit and passionate greenies, Kara and Nina.

On Wednesday, 10 October, the duo hosted a community plogging event on Kilcunda beach followed by a free strength and stretch session run by Kara who is also a qualified fitness coach.

Kara and Nina explained that plogging provided the perfect opportunity to raise awareness as they fundraise for improved recycling infrastructure for the Island of Nusa Lembongan, where they will compete in Asia’s first swim run event this December.

"We love the idea of plogging because it connects to our cause and we can use it as training for our epic 17km run and 2.5km swim," Kara and Nina said.

"In six weeks we’ll be running and swimming our way around the Island of Nusa Lembongan to raise awareness on plastic pollution, and raise money to help out a community who are seriously struggling with this issue."

While the money Kara and Nina are raising is going to Nusa Lembongan, they hope to have an impact on their local community in Bass Coast through holding event’s like plogging sessions on local beaches.
