Bass Coast Shire Mayor, Cr Michael Whelan said that it's now more important than ever for everyone in the community to play their part in helping to stop the spread of the flu.
Delivering vaccinations
Cr Michael Whelan said, "We need to remember that the flu is a highly contagious viral infection that can cause severe illness and life-threatening complications, including pneumonia. During the pandemic, there has been lower levels of influenza vaccine coverage compared with previous years. With borders now reopening, a resurgence of influenza is expected this year."
"As well as getting a vaccine, you can also protect others by coughing or sneezing into your elbow, washing your hands regularly and if you're sick, avoid going to work or school, visiting vulnerable people or busy public places." Cr Whelan said.
Influenza vaccines can also be given on the same day as COVID-19 vaccines. Bass Coast Health are delivering walk-in COVID-19 vaccinations at the Wonthaggi Town Hall. For more information on immunisation sessions contact council's Immunisation Administration Officer on 1300 BCOAST (226 278) or (03) 5671 2211 or visit 'Bass Coast Immunisation' page.
