Gippsland Water urges residents to protect water meters from winter frost damage this winter

Gippsland Water is urging customers to protect water meters from frost this winter, as freezing temperatures can cause bursts and damage, recommending simple coverings and reporting faults via its 24/7 line.

Gippsland Water is encouraging customers to protect their water meters, as temperatures drop with the arrival of winter. Meters can freeze or block water to the house when exposed to frosty overnight temperatures. A frozen meter can also cause a burst, which can lead to pipe damage.

Covering your water meter can prevent it from freezing during frosty temperatures

Placing a container, like a bucket or flowerpot, over your meter can help protect it from frost and avoid any complications. Meters installed below ground level or in sheltered areas are less likely to be affected. Customers who experience a burst or damage to their water meter can contact Gippsland Water’s 24/7 faults and emergencies line at 1800 057 057 or online at Gippsland Water website.
