More Improvements to Roads and Pathways

Capital Works projects underway, including road sealing and footpath renewals.

Bass Coast Shire Council has a number of Capital Works projects underway, including road sealing and footpath renewals.

Seaward Drive in Cape Paterson will be sealed from outside the eastern boundary of The Cape Estate to the Tarooh Street intersection. The project is being completed in partnership between Council and the developers of the estate. The work will include minor clearing, earthworks, crushed rock renewal and spray sealing the pavement. The sealing works will completed this week, subject to contractor availability and depending on weather conditions. The developer will be undertaking further road construction works along the frontage of the estate from early 2019, to complete the remaining unsealed section of road.

The upgrade of Seaward Drive will cause some disruption to residents. This could include traffic management and access to properties. Officers and contractors will liaise with affected residents and aim to minimise disruptions during this time.

Around 30 roads across the Shire will be included in this year's spray sealing program, which has now started. The program should be completed by March 2019, subject to contractor availability and weather conditions. This $350,000 project is Council funded.

Work on renewing the footpath along Billson Street in Wonthaggi has begun, with Stage 1 of the project now underway. Stage 2 is scheduled for January 2019 and may take up to three weeks. This $30,000 project is funded by Council, as part of its adopted 2018/19 Capital Works Program. The aim of this project is to improve access for pedestrians. The work will replace the existing 1.5 metre wide concrete path with a two metre wide, fibre reinforced concrete path. The driveway at the Wonthaggi Bowls Club entrance will also be replaced. Access to the bowls club will be restricted for a four-day period after the concrete is poured. This is required to allow the concrete to cure before vehicles can use the driveway. Some existing car parking spaces on Billson Street (next to McDonalds) will be used by the contractor during Stage 1 of the works. Appropriate signage will be in place for pedestrians to seek alternate routes while the work is underway.
