Explore Monash will be held on September 24. The event allows students and their parents to explore the Gippsland campus. Sessions coincide with school holidays giving families the opportunity to visit while in the Gippsland region. More than 60 people are expected to attend the final Explore Monash of the year, with some coming from as far away as Alice Springs.

Semester Two Graduation at the Gippsland Campus will be held on Saturday, October 5 at 11am in the Binishell. Approximately 100 students will be graduating from all eight faculties represented at the Gippsland Campus. The Occasional Address will be delivered by the Vice-Chancellor of Monash University, Professor Peter Darvall.

Rod Quantock (Australia’s best loved comic talents) will be giving his unique views and insight into the ‘Nelson Review into Higher Education’ at Monash University Gippsland Student Union on Tuesday, 8 October from 1-2pm. The comedic event is open to the public. The ‘Nelson Review of Higher Education’ will affect the affordability of a tertiary education for future University and TAFE students.

• Making the Grade

Dan Jackson, Bachelor of Visual Arts student at the Gippsland Campus, has curated an exhibition, entitled ‘Yoghurt’, at the Counihan Gallery in Brunswick. The exhibition now on show, involves works from three current students, John Abery, Heidi Tuouvinen and Jackson as well as graduates Kim Cross and Dana Ashlakoff.

Fifty Bachelor of Sport and Outdoor Recreation students will be undertaking a six-day bush walk and river journey to Tali Kargn and down the MacAlister River beginning Sunday, 22 September. The first-year students will learn skills in leadership, safety, minimal impact camping, the history and heritage of the area and the impact of human contact with the river system. Amanda Fittler and Penne Tomes, 2nd year Bachelor of Sport and Outdoor Recreation students at the Gippsland Campus successfully completed the gruelling Australian Birkebeiner, 42km marathon cross country skiing competition at Falls Creek on August 31. The Australian Birkebeiner, which is very popular with international skiers, is part of the ‘World Loppet Ski Race’ with only twelve countries in the world licensed to hold this event each year.

Since the Gippsland Institute of Advanced Education began in Churchill in 1970, until the graduation ceremony on 5 October 2002 at Monash University Gippsland Campus, 11,933 graduates will have passed through the doors of the Binishell.
