"The 80 hour course was completed over 10 weeks with classes held at both the Korumburra Army Depot and at GippsTAFE on the weekends," said Kevin Newey, GippsTAFE Dogging Instructor.

The army students work in the 3rd Recovery Company, which involves them going out onto the battlefields in mobile recovery vehicles that pull out tanks and other vehicles.

"The course was a vital part of their training for their job in the army,  with all students given a certificate of competency for safe work performance," said Mr Newey.

GippsTAFE has run the program once before with the army, receiving an award for outstanding delivery of the course. There was also excellent feedback from students that completed both of the courses.

"There is definitely more opportunities to do more training in conjunction with the army, especially in Rigging and Dogging as it covers some aspects of what they have to do in the battlefield." Mr Newey concluded.
